I knew I would have to do something with art, in a way or another. I was reading a lot, but music was much more than only music. It was culture, like no other art was at this period.

I mean what you were listening to was the resume of what you wanted to be and wanted the others think of you (you known, so different, so hype, so absolute, so deep, etc..)

Later I also wrote a lot, I was very involved in cinema, but at the end it was music. Probably because I don’t wish to argue or explain, I want to evoke and share emotion. I like the way music comes, fills the air, and can never be caught. Music is like water, never and always the same, you look at it, and you see yourself…

The first instrument I played was a kind of small electric harmonium, with little keys…

My family was not a musician’s one, so I started on my own, when I was thirteen. I did not wanted to learn piano, I wanted to play the organ.

I think I wished to be the new Mike Ratledge, the organist of Soft Machine.

I finally learned the piano and musical theory, in the classic education ( I still read all the keys !!). Hard times…and I was forming and dissolve bands for some time.

In my worst times, I went so depressed I thought I had no more reason to live, but I still kept on living because I thought I owed it to my music. I read some day the answer from an artist, to the question “what is art ?” and his answer was « Art is what makes life more interesting than art ».

There have also been highs, one of the best moment in my musical life feels a bit silly. My first record has just released, and it was the first time I heard my own music on the radio. It makes me cry. The very best moments are when I am concentrated on my work, and find some piece of a good idea.

I’m inspired by People and places, Windows, water, a gesture, a light, big cities, books, fashion and images, a lot of images.

I often work for film music, art films or fashion films. Creating a soundtrack which merge with the image and atmosphere is one of my favourite exercises.

I am very attracted by Photography, most of my tunes are conceived as if they were images, slowly appearing on the white paper with all the details. Like in a darkroom.

I am also inspired by others artists. One of my new track, « roden crater » comes from James Turrel’s work.

The « Dock hotel » video (included in my precedent LP) was an evocation of Yohji Yamamoto imaginary. This film probably won’t exist without their benevolence.

In todays fast paced world people mostly use music as entertainment. And it seems to me that music as an art and music for entertainment industry have nothing in common, at least in this moment. Selling a tune for 90 cents is a mass market industrial model, not a cultural one. But what does it really change ? There still is mainstream, and still are franc-tireurs.

For the last year I have worked with an ambitious project involving images and sounds for performance and installation. The main idea of it is make the images generated by the sound.

Imagine a group of  8 sound outputs, and 8 screens all around. Each time you have audio signal on any output , it start the linked screen projection, with images poetically express that one sound.

So you have to ask yourself questions, like, What is the color of this sound?

Is it rough or soft, is it heavy or light?

I have also been working on my album “Cloud Chamber”, coming out 26th February.

Smooth One comes from the abstract hip-hop scene. He wrote with Dj cam

the two first album in 1996 and 1998, « underground vibes » and « substances »

( inflamable/ Sonymusic).

After a live album recorded in « transmusicales » festival in Rennes

( « underground live act » inflamable/sonymusic) and many remix for Air, Tek9, Silent Poets, etc…)

Smooth One , feeling in a narrow way with this be bop/ hip hop formula, decided to work alone, mainly on film music.and managing his own label , Superflux.

Superflux published the original soundtrack from « new York zéro zéro »

( Superflux/ Believe) and « Amsterdam reconstruction » about rijks museum , films from the photographer jérome Schlomoff, and the soundtrack from « Exit port St Louis », wich came out under the title « Exit remix » with remix from laurent Ho, Elektrokut and junior Cony.( Superflux/Believe).

Then he released the double cd & dvd project box, « Industrial Welfare », whith a 14 tracks cd audio, a booklet of photographies, and the dvd of the flm Dock Hotel », made with the benevolance of Yohji Yamamoto.

« Industrial Welfare » was distributed almost everywher in the  mass world limited , in Paris at Colette ans Palais de Tokyo.

This 5th album « Cloud chamber »  still uses the same work method mixing samples, electronics and real instruments at his point of achievement.

It marks the mix between my background in french touch and especially abstract hip hop, with my deepest roots like krautrock, terry Riley,Velvet Underground or Brian Eno.

you can find  the entire album on https://smoothone.bandcamp.com/album/cloud-chamber.
