In her press releases, Tory Burch announced the establishment of the Tory Burch Claire McCardell Fashion Fellowship at the Maryland Center for History and Culture, which houses the archives of the pioneering sportswear designer.
Mercer Street’s clothing today, which Burch turned into a runway and street fair featuring local downtown business booths, was a tribute to McCardell’s quest for ease and comfort and the ingenuity with which the designer accomplished them. Tory said it was about highlighting someone who had such an extraordinary impact on fashion in general.
The collection is gorgeous and dynamic, with movement and casual elegance that works for all occasions. One detail to note is that the models were walking two reissues of McCardell’s originals: a striped ankle boot and a ballerina made by Capezio. It was an outstanding achievement in tribute to a fashion legend.
