Antwerp’s MoMu museum from 31 March 2017 to 27 August 2017 will present Margiela: The Hermès Years Exhibition, celebrating the work of Martin Margiela at maison Hermés.

Margiela: The Hermès Years  is one of the biggest exhibitions of 2017 and it will display for the first time designs created by the Belgian stylist Margiela from 1997 to 2003 while he was working as Hermès womenswear creative director.

Martin Margiela has always been seen as one of the most influential avant-garde designers and he influenced the Parisian fashion house with his unique style, giving life to conceptual lines and innovative deconstructed designs, using unusual textures and recycled materials.

The ModeMuseum fashion museum in Antwerp will present some pieces from the 12 collections produced by the designer for Hermès, that embody Margiela’s vision of modern-day luxury based on comfort, timelessness and tactility.

Kaat Debo, director of MoMu and the exhibition’s curator declared:

You enter the exhibition and the idea is to have both worlds of Martin – Maison Martin Margiela and Hermès – next to each other. You have literally the orange world and the white world – you even see them hand painted on tailors’ dummies.”
