London resident Hana Knížová wins PORTRAIT Gold at the GOSEEAWARDS – we present you her works once again on GoSee

Among the big discoveries at the GoSeeAWARDS was certainly photographer Hana Knížová. The Czech native studied photography at the London College of Communication. The adversities and hopes of youth, interpersonal relations, intimacy, family bonds… these are the topics she masterfully captures in her sensitive photos. And the quality of her work did not go unnoticed: She has won, for instance, the John Kobal New Work Award in 2013 of the National Portrait Gallery in London as well as Photographer of the Year at Czech Grand Design in 2019.

Hana Knížová on the works submitted by her to the GoSeeAWARDS : “The submitted images are a brief cut through my work, and they come from various projects. Some are individual portraits, and some are part of larger series. I have worked with people from quite opposite backgrounds – from very privileged to socially deprived, and both were an incredible experience. The use of strong colors and repetitiveness plays a major role in my aesthetics.”

‘Beauty is in everyone, and everyone is beautiful…’ – Frauke Fischer takes home SILVER in the category PORTRAIT at the GOSEEAWARDS 2019

Berlin-based beauty photographer FRAUKE FISCHER, born 1981 in East Berlin, took second place in the PORTRAIT category at GoSeeAWARDS 2019 with her unusual beauty spread. Frauke Fischer on her beautiful project: “Beauty is in everyone, and everyone is beautiful… being different is beautiful. I started a new project this year in which I wanted to show that beauty and thus beauty photography are not just related to a small group of people, but that everyone is beautiful.

In beauty photography, often only perfect ideals are staged. This started to bore me, and I wanted to show how much more fascinating people and all sorts of beauty there are. This is the first part of the project in which I photographed Tamara Röske, a model with Down syndrome. It was a pleasure to meet her. Not only is she one of the most open and welcoming people I know, she is also full of energy and ambition. From acting and modeling to clarinet playing in the orchestra and swimming competitions, she does it all with ease. She is a beautiful person inside and out, … I consider myself lucky to have met her.”

I graduated in 2007 in Photography and Visual Communication at the IED in Rome.”

With this book, Einat Dan and Camilla Camaglia took the challenge to create something visually different, outside of normal beauty stereotypes. Something beyond beauty.

KRYOLAN : “Einat and Camilla have been producing creative imagery together for over seven years. Both have the passion to create beauty images with individual flair while showing another side of beauty. The purpose of this book is to inspire people to think outside of the box. They hope to encourage younger generations of make-up artists and people passionate about expression to push boundaries.

Einat is well known for her unique style in beauty, fashion and avant-garde make-up. Her talent combines perfectly with the photographic vision and technical knowledge of Camilla. Together, they form a creative powerhouse that has produced a unique body of work. This shared experience gave them the confidence to throw themselves into the ambitious goal of creating a complete new body of work for this book over just five months.

Einat likes to show that you can reinvent yourself through make-up, and both artists believe in sharing their artistic knowledge while striving to push their own creative limits with each challenge. There is no limit to creativity. When exploring the infinite ideas of creative make-up and making visions come to life, there is no room for hesitation.”

Paris resident Philipp Mueller presented his spread about the world-famous St. Ouen flea market at the GOSEEAWARDS 2019 in the category PORTRAIT

Photographer Philipp Mueller, born in Switzerland, captured the attention of the jury with his spread about the flea market in St. Ouen. “I’ve lived in Paris for 20 years, and I like to think that I know my home away from home. But still, it holds so many surprises even after such a long time. When I was called to photograph portraits for a project at the flea market in St. Ouen, on the city limits of Paris, I was immediately on board. There is one little corner of the flea market which successfully fends off the attacks of our modern day and age. This world is in danger, because the town is attractive for the upcoming Olympics.

The investors are already at the doorstep – just like the Romans once at the gates of the little Gaulish village with the ever so popular hero with the mustache. Which is why it was so important for me to capture this special place for eternity. First and foremost, to capture the people who have grown together with the flea market in their habitat.” We have the photos for you on GoSee.

About – The Saint Ouen Flea Market, officially created in 1885, is the largest antiques market in the world! The Flea Market – also referred to as the “Puces” – is a real institution and since 2001, has been recognized as a “Zone for the Protection of Architectural, Urban, and Landscape Heritage (ZPPAUP)” thanks to its unusual ambiance and atmosphere. It is considered the largest antiques market and second-hand shop in the world. The market covers seven hectares and hosts 14 markets: Antica, Biron, Cambo, Dauphine, Django Reinhardt, Jules Vallès, le Passage, Malassis, Malik, l’Entrepôt, Paul Bert Serpette, des Rues, L’Usine & Lécuyer and Vernaison. This tourist landmark, located north of Paris above of the 18th arrondissement, is held on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. You will discover Paris in an original way and will be surprised as you walk around the “Puces”. It’s a true treasure trove for vintage item aficionados and antiques amateurs…  GoSee : marcheauxpuces-saintouen.com and find all shortlisted artists in the PORTRAIT category here : goseeawards.com/shortlist_portrait & gosee.de/philippmueller

Mexican women in VOGUE Mexico – the PORTRAIT spread by Anne Menke was on the shortlist of the GOSEEAWARDS 2019, and here once again for you on GoSee

Anne Menke portrayed Mexican women, one more beautiful than the next, for VOGUE Mexico. The photos have an incredibly natural effect which brings out the beauty of the indigenous facial features more clearly. “Four of the seven women are not models, and the other three have just started their modeling careers. This makes the photos even more natural, which are not meant to show ideals of the fashion world, but present real women to whom other can look up to and relate to. Every single photo exudes an individual and wonderful aura. The simple backgrounds, few accessories and black and white film used shift the focus clearly to the faces.” says Anne Menke.

Anne Menke and her keen eye for the special captured the individual beauties in Sayulita, a beautiful village on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Creative direction was in the hands of Debbie Smith, with styling by Max Ortega Govela, hair by Lisa-Raquel Baines and make-up by Ana Marie Rizzieri.

About – Anne Menke occupies the unique realm where high fashion meets Bohemian travel and a free spirit. Her editorial work (for magazines including W, Sports Illustrated, Esquire, Elle, In Style, Travel & Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, and Vogue) exudes a sense of glamour often amidst a backdrop of far-flung, exotic locales. Menke has photographed couture on the mountains of Peru and beauty contests on the plains of Mongolia. Her eye for the authentic, somehow she’s an insider wherever she goes, has informed her campaigns for clients including Tommy Hilfiger, Nine West, Keds, Clarins, L’Oreal, Aveda, Banana Republic, Ralph Lauren, Macy’s, J. Crew, Nike, Wrangler, and Hush Puppies .

Anne Menke was born in Germany and has lived and worked in London, Paris and New York City. At the moment, she splits her time between New York City and Sayulita, Mexico, where she surfs and chartered a green school, The Costa Verde International school project. Mexico is also the perfect base for her frequent photography excursions. In 2001, Menke published a photography book “Our New York” in conjunction with Tommy Hilfiger. Her second book was published in 2012 entitled “See The World Beautiful” and is about her personal work from the last 15 years. Over the last two years, she had exhibitions in New York and Mexico.
